Microgel, nanogel and hydrogel–hydrogel semi-IPN composites for biomedical applications: synthesis and characterization

چکیده
Quaternary ammonium salt hydrogels from a cationic monomer, (3-acrylamidopropyl)-trimethylammonium chloride (APTMACl), in a variety sizes such as bulk, microand nanohas been prepared. The synthesis of microand nanogels were carried out in the microenvironment of water-in-oil microemulsions using two types of surfactants, namely, L-αphosphatidylcholine (lecithin) and dioctyl sulfosuccinate sodium salt (AOT). Additionally, hydrogel–hydrogel composite semi-interpenetrating polymer networks (semi-IPN) was synthesized by dispersing previously prepared micro/nanogel into neutral monomers such as acrylamide (AAm) or 2-hydroxylethyl methcarylate (HEMA) before network formation. Hydrogel swelling and pH response behaviors have been investigated for bulk gels. Morphology, structure, and size of nano-, microand bulk materials were explored utilizing transmission electron microcopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). It was confirmed with gel electrophoresis that completely charged nanogel form a strong complex with DNA.

Background: The excellent biocompatibility, biodegradability and biological properties of the hydrogels, fabricated using natural polymers, especially polysaccharides, are very advantageous for biomedical applications. Gum tragacanth (GT) is a heterogeneous highly branched anionic polysaccharide, which has been used extensively in food and pharmaceutical industries. Despite, its desirable prop...
متن کاملSynthesis, characterization and swelling behavior investigation of gelatin-g-Poly(Acrylic Acid-co-Itaconic Acid)
A novel pH-responsive superabsorbent hydrogel based on gelatin was prepared through crosslinking copolymerization of poly (acrylic acid) and poly (itaconic acid). The copolymerization conditions including monomers, initiator, gelatin and crosslinker concentration, reaction temperature, and neutralization percent were systematically optimized to achieve a hydrogel with swelling capacity as high ...

Modified poly(aspartic acid)/poly(vinyl alcohol) interpenetrating polymer network (KPAsp/PVA IPN) hydrogel for drug controlled release was synthesized by a simple one-step method in aqueous system using poly(aspartic acid) grafting 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (KH-550) and poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as materials. The hydrogel surface morphology and composition were characterized by Fourier trans...
متن کاملStructural analysis of dextrins and characterization of dextrin-based biomedical hydrogels.
The characterization of several commercial dextrins and the analysis of the potential of dextrin derived hydrogels for biomedical applications were performed in this work. The structural characterization of dextrins allowed the determination of the polymerization and branching degrees, which ranged from 6 to 17 glucose residues and 2 to 13%, respectively. Tackidex, a medical grade dextrin was c...
